well thought out
I purchased this stand from Amazon. The box arrived a little tattered and torn, but for the most part the contents were damage free. Other reviews have commented on the aesthetics and functionality of the stand. I agree with all of their comments. I had to build mine and will comment on the stand from that point of view.
I purchased the Techcraft SWBL60. Before unpacking the box, I recommend selecting a large clutter free area where you can spread out the several large pieces. I built mine on the floor close to where I planned to place the unit.
I quickly noticed that all of the holes were pre-drilled. Every piece fit very nicely together. If I was feeling the need to add some force to make it fit, I was not using the correct part in the correct place. Even down to installing the cardboard back, every hole was pre-drilled in both the cardboard, and the unit itself. Excellent Media Center for the Money ...
When budgeting my home theater system, the last item I had thought to budget was the media center to house it all. Finding the perfect piece was more difficult than anticipated. I originally looked at the Salamander series, designed specifically for a/v equipment. The only issue here is the series starts at $1000 and only goes up from there.
Luckily, I stumbled upon Techcraft's SWBL60, which perfectly houses my Onkyo 906 in the center shelf and U-verse, ps3 and xbox components on the side. The glass panels don't seem to cause any IR issues, which is always a concern. I did however have to skip on installing the middle door to get the receiver to fit.
Why 4 stars and not 5? One of the pieces has damage from shipping, not noticeable unless you get up close. Also, I should point out, after assembling the unit with extra care as to not scratch or damage the unit any further, I ended up scratching the top surface after the fact. Stylish, High Quality Product
I purchased this online about a month ago after searching for a product that fit the appearance and quality we were looking for. It's rare to find a nice, clean design (close to contemporary) on a TV stand without paying a fortune. The high-end appearance compliments our 52" Samsung (wall-mounted) and cleanly hides our components and wires. Everything is now organized and looks great.
Overall, this product is very elegant and very solid, both visually and physically. It has a good, heavy weight to it and the finish is nice and even. If you are concerned about space, this TV stand offers plenty of room to fit your components, etc inside and even on the top surface. The mesh center door actually allowed me the flexibility to place my center speaker inside of it rather than on top. Also worth noting, my traditional width stereo components are a snug fit but they do fit. I had to unscrew a door hinge to get my receiver in, but it only took a few extra minutes...
